Restauration of a lock

Activity :

Dominique PIERRAT restores furniture and seats from the 17th century to those of the first half of the 20th century. Whether they are period or ordinary objects, solid or with a veneer, carved or inlaid, Dominique can do it. Nothing is too much of a challenge!

Philosophy :

Restoration is vital work for the preservation of furniture. Depending on the techniques used, we can contribute to preserving it or, on the other hand, to prolonging its lifespan by the work we do. However, when restoring work, it is better not to replace the deteriorated parts with new ones as the marks of the past would be erased, gone forever. We try our best to keep the original materials –if necessary we strengthen them. However, when it is necessary, in order to make a missing part, or when the item is too damaged to be kept, we replace it with wood of the same kind that has a very similar look. It is faithfully reproduced, respecting the work of the craftsman who conceived the object all those years ago. Our finishing touch aims to give it its beautiful appearance as well as keeping to the patina of time when it was made.

Main techniques used

All the techniques used are reversible (except the ones specific to the consolidation of wood, as long as this irreversibility does not require the removal of the part). .
